Passage Follow Up

A follow up post to my earlier observation about the Israeli Dolphin class submarine transiting the Suez Canal in broad daylight...this observation from Newsmax:

Two of Israel's Saar class missile boats crossed through the Suez Canal and into the Red Sea, Israeli defense officials said. Speaking on condition of anonymity because the move was not officially publicized, they said it was connected to "the navy's recent activities around the Red Sea."
The Sa'ar Class Corvette is a spicy little number made by Northrop - she carries 8 Harpoon missiles and a pretty good suite of anti-aircraft and anti-ship weapons as well.

What is interesting about this move is that the Israelis have always relied on their Air Force and Army for defense. I wonder if the Iranian mullahs had figured sea-borne projection of power into their calculus.
