One of my favorite lefties is Christopher Hitchens - he is articulate, doesn't shout mantras back at you and wickedly effective in debate. Unlike most of his ilk, he is honest. In this piece over at Slate, he muses that one of the side benefits of the fall of Saddam may well be the unrest and (let us pray) the possible downfall of the mullah thugocracy in Iran.
Hitch did not fall prey to the Bush Derangement Syndrome - like a traditional leftist, he held that the invasion of Iraq was justified because of the human rights abuses and the U.N. violations. He despises despotism in all its forms, including our own Barry Soweto, err, Obama.
