Operation Coffee Cup

Amazing! Truth from beyond the grave.

This country has been fighting this incremental usurpation of individual liberty at least since FDR--probably longer. The programs that Reagan was addressing have paved the way to more and more government interference in life--they should be controlled, not increased.

The Founding Fathers knew government was a beast that needed to be contained. They lived with the tyranny that government can become--and risked everything to fight it. They pledged their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor as they signed the Declaration of Independence. Risking charges of treason, they embarked on a great experiment--to build a new country based on LIBERTY.

These huge government programs are always introduced under the guise of the need for this great country to show MORE compassion. Yet once a government plan is in place to care for one segment, its grows and grows--morphing to cover new segments of the population and creating citizens who forget how to to do things on their own.

It is much more compassionate to help someone learn to be their own person that to kill his potential by breeding dependence. Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and he can feed himself for life. These huge government programs are always about "giving people fish," never about "teaching people how to fish."

Government programs NEVER have their own phase-out built in. This is because government programs by their nature are about gaining power over the individual. Politicians increase the number who depend on them, build their power base, and plan on staying in their positions for life.

American citizens need to remember that that WE hold the reins of government. Keep its areas of influence minimal--and CONSTITUTIONALLY based. There is no provision for the government to provide healthcare in the US Constitution.

Commit these words to memory. Review them every time a new program "to help the people" (and coincidentally take over a big chunk of the economy) appears:
"A government big enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take everything you have."
