Why I am Worried...

What do you call someone who campaigns on the notion that the sitting President is irresponsible in piling up budget deficits "as far as the eye can see," who then produces a budget that makes a graph look like one of those Soviet era posters?
You know the kind - tank factories making more and more tanks and larger ones too!

Well, the word that comes to mind for me is "liar." There is no rhyme or reason for this in rational economics. It only makes sense if there is an ideology being fulfilled. We have studied the soup of communism and anti-Americanism that BHO was raised in. Perhaps he is just fulfilling his mission?

The difference between W and O is that whereas the 8 years of W budgets crushed us beneath deficits without any physical results (hooray tax cuts we cant afford for people who dont need them! thats using your head!), O wants to spend a vast amount of money once, up front, to both stimulate the flagging economy, as well as provide a much-needed boost to america's green/domestic infrastructure. Spending against a future when we can DECREASE spending dramatically. If we were to import no foreign oil, that would save a vast pile of treasure.

Do you see the difference? it is the difference between INVESTMENT and WASTE. The 'idealogy' here would be "we need to change the status quo or we are in deep trouble".

Why do i think you are not going to be capable of making that distinction.....

Mr. A has clearly forgotten the little thing called 9/11 and the costs that came with that. He has also forgotten that most conservatives were opposed to the spending increases...AND he has flunked Econ 101 wherein the Laffer Curve clearly demonstrates time after time that reducing tax rates raises government revenue. Finally, he is under the sad perception that government is the best arbiter for how funds in the economy should be used. Give all to O my little sheep - he knows how to spend your money better than you do. Finally, if you were so damned concerned about foreign oil, why not let us a)use nuclear power; b)drill here now; c) allow for coal gasification; d) allow refineries to be built so oil prices wouldn't fluctuate wildly as they switch from winter heating to summer driving. Damned facts always get in the way of the liberal panacea.

ahh defending the status quo. every half-assed GOP-er loves the Laffer curve but seems blissfully unaware that it does in fact have a point of DECREASING RETURNS TO SCALE... oops...maybe i didnt flunk econ 101 after all, old man...

drill here now and coal gasification sorta defeat the whole 'green' part of that initiative, do they not? i think someone is still stuck in the mindset of the long, long ago... you know there is a "series of tubes" that has all sorts of informationon in it, if you care to join us here in the Information Age...

And seriously... ONLY the government can mandate the sort of drastic spending that would be required for this sort of paradigm shift. you can whine about it all you like, but your kids will be damned happy to live in an america that actually leads the world into the future instead of building bridges to the dark ages. so yes, if government is the only one that can do it, they are by default both the best and the worst. which is pointless circular logic. watch Faux News much?

seriously. how about some deeper thought than the wannabe Rove-ian talking points du-jour?

Well, kiddo, here's to "paradigm shifts," "synergy,""green technology" and assorted other meaningless buzzwords. I would invite you to join me in a toast, but not sure you are of age yet - besides, in my advanced years with shaking hands I might spill the wine in my lap. It is you youngsters who should be MOST concerned about the rising tide of taxation - it's you folks that are going to pay the ridiculous tab. I fight the fight FOR my children and pray that they will live in a free land like the one I inherited without statists like you trying to run everyone else's life.

Don't even get me started on the hoax of the "greening" thing - that movement became the refuge for failed communists and socialists after their model state, the USSR crumbled into the ash heap.

As for the diminishing returns of the Laffer Curve, we are far from the peak. We are one of the most taxed nations on the earth. You want the economy to take off? Suspend the capital gains tax for two years and watch out. You want new bridges built? Utilize tax incentives and private/public partnerships to finance the ventures.

You live under the sad delusion that being "new" is better...careful. First, "new" under this administration has already been tried and failed. Look up Stalin's five year plans for a hint. Second, the "old" notions I preach have also been tried before...and worked! Treasure your freedom, child, while you have it.

and so i see i am indeed correct - you will simply object to anything that you see as 'new' because in the past something you associate it with was insufficient? i guess the good part is that 70% of americans, and 100% of our leadership (after this week's delightful little surprise) are not in fact scared to try something new to actually improve america rather than reinstating the failed status quo. and as far as 'most heavilly taxed nations on earth" ... you better be saying that tongue-in-cheek. not only are our marginal tax rates WAY below where they were here in america historically, look up some of the european countries and try again. and of course the people for whom cap gains makes the most difference are in fact the ones who spend incredible effort to shelter assets overseas to avoid paying anything in taxes at all. want to see a far better america? close the gap between the insanely rich and the 'everyone elses' (into which group i am certain you also fall) and watch the burgeoning middle class start small businesses and forge better lives for their children. those kids will be better educated, and have far more opportunities to compete in the new economy. or we can listen to you and let India kkick ourr asses for a generation or 2. good thinking.

guess you were never a star trek fan (which may be pedantic, but is certainly useful as a model for imagining a society without the current setup), and have no conception of anything in the 'future' except exactly what you see now, only with more channels on tv and more powerful appliances. do not blame your lack of foresight on the rest of us; we will drag you and the rest of the cro-magnon 30% into the future, and you dont even have to thank us. if you and yours were in charge in this era of drastic change at the speed of information, it would be a mere decade until we were all back in the stone age, sitting in caves trying to decide whether or not using this newfangled 'fire' was going to anger the gods.
