Separated at Birth

So despite the numerology and intense study of Biblical scripture, mixed in with a good dose of old fashioned hucksterism, Harold Camping's vision of the world ending over the weekend did not come to pass.  Some wags on the left are enjoying the lack of rapture and trying to equate decent church-going folks with well...a nut. But they are looking in the wrong place for parallels.

No, the real parallel is not in the pulpits of the faithful who dutifully attend church, temple, mosque and synagogue.  Many of those folks attend services because they know that at least their world will end.  We have a few decades on this little blue orb to do our best...having faith in an afterlife at least makes that experience somewhat more pleasant.  At the very least, they are living out Pascal's Wager - there may be no way of proving God exists, but if you live your life accordingly, you have nothing to lose.

No, the real profits of doom and the answer to the separated at birth question comes in the form of good ol' Al Gore.  Here's the real profit of doom who, ironically, profits greatly from the forecast of doom.  How many of his and his faithful's predictions are demonstrably false?  The irony of comparing the two is that you really cannot disprove religion - but you can use "facts" to disprove the rantings of the Global Warmers, err. "Climate Changers," who blame every natural disaster from earthquakes to hurricanes and tornadoes on man's incessant desire for fuel.

Got a species going extinct?  (As millions have...) Blame it on man and the global warmings.  Just got whacked with a tsunami - pity you didn't stop driving your SUV last year.  The ice caps are melting - no their growing...either way, it's your fault.  The snow mass on the Rockies is receding, no wait, it's at a record...either way, you done it.  You get the point.

We have called for stewardship on these pages many times before.  We are all for good water quality, clean air and healthy foods.  But unlike the cultist climate changers, we remain humble in nature's face acknowledging that there's a whole lot we cannot do even as we strive to do what we can.

American Physicist: "Global Warming Most Successful Pseudoscientific Fraud"

Hal Lewis, an Emeritus Professor of Physics at UC Santa Barbara has resigned from the American Physical Society with a letter that should be read aloud before every showing of Al Gore's histrionic "Earth in the Balance."  Lewis not only lays bare the scientific quackery of the global warming scam, he points directly to the money involved:

It is of course, the global warming scam, with the (literally) trillions of dollars driving it, that has corrupted so many scientists, and has carried APS before it like a rogue wave. It is the greatest and most successful pseudoscientific fraud I have seen in my long life as a physicist. Anyone who has the faintest doubt that this is so should force himself to read the ClimateGate documents, which lay it bare. (Montford's book organizes the facts very well.) I don't believe that any real physicist, nay scientist, can read that stuff without revulsion. I would almost make that revulsion a definition of the word scientist.

The scientific method that helped birth the modern world centers on skeptical analysis of a body of information.  Sadly, that process has been reduced to mindlessly repeating mantras so the grant money keeps rolling in.

While the regular media will ignore it, hopefully, somewhere, a man will run into the brainwashing theater and throw the proverbial hammer through the screen.

Climategate: The "Pentagon Papers" of Global Warming

The polar bears aren't the only ones laughing at Al Gore now.  Pretty much everyone is.  Steven Hayward offers up a wonderful summary of how this hoax is coming unravelled over here.  Money line:

Later on, the global warming hoax is compared to Esperanto...worth the read.  Companion piece is in today's Wall Street Journal which features an interview with Jairam Ramesh, the Indian Climate Minister.  Mary Kissel's "Climate Change Quagmire" reiterates an argument I made with a global warming evangelical a few weeks ago who was wringing his hands about the Himalayan glaciers, namely if you were the country most likely to be affected by this, wouldn't you be doing back-flips to fix the problem?  The Indians are not suicidal are they?  Of course not, they just haven't bought into the hype and apparently aren't plugged into the goody-machine that Al Gore and his pals are trying to generate - from Hayward's article:

When Do We Get To Call It A HOAX??

Over the weekend, yet another revelation of fraud and unchecked data came out of the UN's climate change lunacy, the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).  The Telegraph is reporting that on top of the typo (2305 if ever, versus 2035) about the Himalayas, now they have admitted mucking up wave data: "New Errors in IPCC Climate Report."

With DC buried under a glacier over the weekend, maybe our own press will start reporting on this scandal.  And, maybe, just maybe, the nonsense of cap and trade will finally be tossed overboard with the rest of the trash.

Twenty to Thirty Years of Cooling

I know many of you are still trying to keep the tootsies warm - it's 27 here right now, up nicely from the 14 this morning when I walked the dog.  Some real scientists are looking at the data and trends and are projecting that we may be entering a mini-ice age for the next twenty to thirty years.  Recognize this geographic shape?

Why that's jolly Ol' England as seen from a satellite last week.  The scientists are monitoring deep ocean cooling and warming patterns and finding far stronger correlations to climate change than the witch doctor brew of data that the UN and the wonderboys at East Anglia use.  Here's an interesting factoid from the article:

According to the US National Snow and Ice Data Centre in Colorado, Arctic summer sea ice has increased by 409,000 square miles, or 26 per cent, since 2007 – and even the most committed global warming activists do not dispute this.

Now, can we puhleeze stop with the "CO2 is a poison gas and man is  all to blame" meme?  Settled?  Science, by definition is about pursuit of the truth.  If facts don't fit your theory, time to review the theory.  Let's stop this insanity!

50 Years of Cooling Ahead

A peer reviewed journal out of Canada is reporting that we are most likely in for a cooling trend that began in 2002 and will continue for the next 50 years:

Qing Bin-Lu, a professor of physics and astronomy at Canada's University of Waterloo, is a believer in the value of drawing conclusions from observable data and not from selective data fed into computer models that are based on false assumptions and include "fudge factors."

You See Nothing...

Watts Up With That is taking apart New Scientist magazine this morning. New Science has been a shill for the global warming scaremongers - they are even mentioned in the famous CRU e-mails. WUWT is using that thing called "logic" and "truth" to debunk the attempts by New Science to cover up Climategate:

In DenierGate, watch New Scientist closely, as they do the unthinkable and try to defend gross scientific malpractice by saying it’s OK because other people did other things a little bit wrong, that were not related, and a long time ago. Move along ladies and gentlemen, there’s nothing to see…

The big problem for this formerly good publication is that they have decided already what the answer is to any question on climate-change (and the answer could be warm or cold but it’s always ALARMING). That leaves them clutching for sand-bags to prop up their position as the king-tide sweeps away any journalistic credibility they might have had.

So, while the Copenhagen Conferees spew their carbon at a rate heretofore unseen for any climate conference, the world keeps chugging along, racking up the fewest natural disasters in a decade - despite what Al Gore predicted would happen.

Follow the money folks - this conference is nothing more than a giant shakedown of the industrialized west for handouts to the Third World. It is not about science - Climategate has broken that myth wide open...it's about money and a bald attempt to redistribute it.

When asked about the significance of the hacked e-mails from the CRU, Gore repeats his talking point - "these exchanges took place ten years ago." Umm, Al, oh great inventor of the internet, the most recent one is from last month. Imagine that, Al can't count...or tell time.

Al Gore Cancels Lecture

Just in from the AP:

COPENHAGEN --Climate campaigner Al Gore has canceled a lecture he was supposed to deliver in Copenhagen.

The former vice president and Nobel Peace Prize winner had been scheduled to speak to more than 3,000 people at a Dec. 16 event hosted by the Berlingske Tidende newspaper group.

The group says Gore canceled the lecture Thursday, citing unforeseen changes in his schedule.

Gore spokeswoman Kalee Kreider says the decision was made because of "all the events going on with the summit." Dec. 16 is a key date for the meeting because that's when the ministerial segment starts.

Chief editor Lisbeth Knudsen says it's a "great disappointment" that Gore canceled and that all tickets will be refunded.

We're supposed to believe that he had a "scheduling conflict?" C'mon Al, this is Copenhagen, the big show! Remember the "scientific consensus?" I love that part where you said "there can be no debate," especially when you deliver it with that karate chop hand motion! Oh, and then there's this jewel:

The Third World nations have been going along with it hoping to shake the money tree for doing nothing; beats having to figure out how to do economic development on their own.

Look, the climate gets warmer...the climate gets cooler; it cycles. Those cycles are driven by things like...wait for it...ocean currents and...hold on...what's that big yellow orb we see in the morning...the Sun. This does not mean we should not be good stewards of our planet; clearly we should. But the global warming hoax was about shaking down rich people and nations not about science and not about the environment. Another bastion of the statist religion is crumbling under the weight of facts.

Gotta love the "Thinking Man's Thinking Man" part - this is the left's attempt at elevating their pop-saints - "he's sooooo smart!" Well, let's look at the record shall we? From "Gore's Dubious School Record (Jennifer Braceros) we find:

Gore's undergraduate transcript from Harvard is riddled with C's, including a C-minus in introductory economics, a D in one science course, and a C-plus in another. "In his sophomore year at Harvard," the Post reported, "Gore's grades were lower than any semester recorded on Bush's transcript from Yale." Moreover, Gore's graduate school record - consistently glossed over by the press - is nothing short of shameful. In 1971, Gore enrolled in Vanderbilt Divinity School where, according to Bill Turque, author of "Inventing Al Gore," he received F's in five of the eight classes he took over the course of three semesters. Not surprisingly, Gore did not receive a degree from the divinity school. Nor did Gore graduate from Vanderbilt Law School, where he enrolled for a brief time and received his fair share of C's.

A "D" in Science??? And he wants to lecture us in his haughty sonorous tones?

Somewhere in this I am reminded of Al Pacino's remarks to the jury in the phenomenal movie "And Justice For All." "You're out of order!" he yells at the judge as he is hauled out of the courtroom. We should be yelling this at Al Gore, at all the environmental phonies, at our President who wants to go to Copenhagen (again - had a lot of success there last time), the compliant lackey press and anyone else who threatens our freedom with hyper-moral judgementalism and junk science.
