“We should never despair, our Situation before has been unpromising and has changed for the better, so I trust, it will again. If new difficulties arise, we must only put forth new Exertions and proportion our Efforts to the exigency of the times.” —George Washington
He is declaring war on investors, entrepreneurs, small businesses, large corporations, and private-equity and venture-capital funds.
This time, CEOs won't be able to use taxpayer money to pad their paychecks or buy fancy drapes or disappear on a private jet. Those days are over.
I didn't think I would live long enough to say this: "McGovern's right!" This bill is another in a series of very scary items that the Left is going to ram down our throats.
Unions served their time and purpose, but they are a dinosaur now and a total drag on American manufacturing. Just what we need to do now in the face of this economic downturn - cut them loose to organize with fear and intimidation in every sector they can. Some change...you can keep it.
Sounds like the Democrat congress referring to the American people! The screaming girls act just like the Obamistas...frightening.
Beck has been on the forefront of identifying the "problems" in the Wondrous One's selections....here's another star!
AUSTIN -- Texas officials are working on a plan to respond to a potential collapse of the Mexican government and the specter of thousands fleeing north in fear for their lives after recent reports indicated the country could be on the verge of chaos.
One new bureaucracy, the National Coordinator of Health Information Technology, will monitor treatments to make sure your doctor is doing what the federal government deems appropriate and cost effective. The goal is to reduce costs and “guide” your doctor’s decisions (442, 446).
Hospitals and doctors that are not “meaningful users” of the new system will face penalties. “Meaningful user” isn’t defined in the bill. That will be left to the HHS secretary, who will be empowered to impose “more stringent measures of meaningful use over time” (511, 518, 540-541)
I think it's great that a President and the First Lady would take time to visit with school children. I just find it more than passing hypocritical though that they would do this but NOT send their kids to this school. Why?
Are the DC Public Schools not good enough for the Obamas? Maybe if there were school choice, or a charter school...
President Barack Obama decried as "inexcusable and irresponsible" the delay of his economic recovery legislation in Congress after a new data revealed that an estimated 3.6 million Americans have lost their jobs since the recession began. His remarks were some of his most direct and pointed in support of the stimulus package, which the Senate could vote on as soon as Friday afternoon. Obama acknowledged the current bill "is not perfect, but a bill is absolutely necessary."
California's farms and vineyards could vanish by the end of the century, and its major cities could be in jeopardy, if Americans do not act to slow the advance of global warming, Secretary of Energy Steven Chu said Tuesday.Meanwhile in the real world, there is this:
Steven Chu, Claude Cohen-Tannoudji, and William D. Phillips have developed methods of using laser light to cool gases to the µK temperature range and keeping the chilled atoms floating or captured in different kinds of "atom traps". The laser light functions as a thick liquid, dubbed optical molasses, in which the atoms are slowed down. Individual atoms can be studied there with very great accuracy and their inner structure can be determined. As more and more atoms are captured in the same volume a thin gas forms, and its properties can be studied in detail. The new methods of investigation that the Nobel Laureates have developed have contributed greatly to increasing our knowledge of the interplay between radiation and matter. In particular, they have opened the way to a deeper understanding of the quantum-physical behaviour of gases at low temperatures. The methods may lead to the design of more precise atomic clocks for use in, e.g., space navigation and accurate determination of position. A start has also been made on the design of atomic interferometers with which, e.g., very precise measurements of gravitational forces can be made, and atomic lasers, which may be used in the future to manufacture very small electronic components.
"Nancy Killefer has decided to withdraw her nomination, and we accepted her withdrawal," Tommy Vietor, a White House spokesman, said Tuesday. The 55-year-old executive with consulting giant McKinsey & Co., was expected to explain her reasons for pulling out later in the day.
When her selection was announced by Obama on Jan. 7, The Associated Press disclosed that in 2005 the District of Columbia government had filed a $946.69 tax lien on her home for failure to pay unemployment compensation tax on household help.
Since then, administration officials refused to answer questions about the tax error, which she resolved five months after the lien was filed. Obama's first choice for commerce secretary, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson took his name out of consideration when his confirmation appeared headed toward complications because of a grand jury investigation over how state contracts were issued to political donors.
More recently, Timothy Geithner was confirmed as Treasury secretary despite belatedly paying $34,000 in income taxes and Tom Daschle is still waiting to see if his late payment of more than $128,000 in income taxes will harm his nomination to be health and human services secretary.
$34,000? $128,000??? This is so far past the point of credulity that it is laughable. At least Ms. Killefer had the decency to withdraw her nomination. The brilliant, indespensible brain thing, Tim Geithner is now running the Treasury Department which includes the...IRS! Daschle will probably get through simply because of the Senate Club Rules. Ordinary citizens go to jail over stuff like this...Republicans get crucified in public...Democrats? They get cabinet posts.
This is sickening.
