Infamy

No December 7th passes that members and veterans of the United States Navy do not pause and reflect on what happened that Sunday morning in Pearl Harbor in 1941. We think about our shipmates that went down that day...the boys at Hickam Field. The oil spilling into the harbor as those great warships bled to death. Our country has several seminal events of outrage - Pearl Harbor and September 11 probably the two greatest. As a Texan by birth, the Alamo is top of mind too. We have always rallied and done great things as a people. Usually those involved freeing others of the oppression that drove them to make us a target. Japan and Germany were transformed from maniacally tyrannical states into engines of world progress. The jury is still way out on Iraq...further out on Afghanistan, but at a minimum a new way is in front of them.

For a great perspective on this horrific day, check out Eyewitness to History.
