Can we afford Liberalism?

This is the question posed by one of my favorite authors, Paul Johnson. "Modern Times," and "History of the American People" should be required reading to get out of High School - fat chance in the Union dominated public school system we have. Paul observes:

If we seriously wish to repair the damage, we need to accept that this is fundamentally a moral crisis, not a financial one. It is the product of the self-indulgence and complacency born of our ultraliberal societies, which have substituted such pseudo-religions as political correctness and saving the planet for genuine distinctions between right and wrong and the cultivation of real virtues.

Post note - I just ran the numbers in the Electoral Map over at realclearpolitics - if this story is legit, McCain wins 290-248. Not far off from the map I made for myself and hermetically sealed away till after the election...Rumbler prediction? 299-239, McCain. Let us pray...

Too funny - an electrical engineer hooks up his McCain-Palin sign and zaps the little perp. I need to figure out how to do that with mine. Knock on wood, they've only stolen one so far, but the creeps took quite a few in the neighborhood.

It's the Courts Stupid!

Liberal nirvana could occur with an Obama victory. If you thought FDR tried to pack the courts...just wait. The Constitution could well hang in the balance as this excellent article from the Wall Street Journal lays out. A sampling:

Speaking in July 2007 at a conference of Planned Parenthood, he said: "[W]e need somebody who's got the heart, the empathy, to recognize what it's like to be a young teenage mom. The empathy to understand what it's like to be poor, or African-American, or gay, or disabled, or old. And that's the criteria by which I'm going to be selecting my judges."

On this view, plaintiffs should usually win against defendants in civil cases; criminals in cases against the police; consumers, employees and stockholders in suits brought against corporations; and citizens in suits brought against the government. Empathy, not justice, ought to be the mission of the federal courts, and the redistribution of wealth should be their mantra.

The View from Jerusalem

Caroline Glick, who lives in Jerusalem, gets it right with this painfully poignant observation about the testing of Barack. We joke about it here on SNL, but there, it is a frightening reality. If Israel decides to strike Iran to prevent them from developing a nuclear bomb, will a President Obama stand beside the only democracy in the Middle East? Would he order U.S. fighters to intercept the effort? A man who sits down with Khalid Rashidi and would sit down with Achmadinijad without preconditions just might...so he can get along.
