Wha..Illinois, Corruption in Politics?

Whoa, stop the presses! Corruption has been found in Illinois politics. I had no idea! I guess this guy won't be able to wear white at his wedding. Here's the big question - why has this entire machine not been investigated before now? Can you say "Daley?" Very good - knew you could.

Carjackers

So these two are going to run the car companies? This is criminal car-jacking on a scale not seen before. Since when does Nancy Pelosi understand the needs of the American consumer in their car selection process? When did Barney Fag..err Frank, become an expert in production capacity and distribution? This shibboleth that the American taxpayer is getting a great deal because "we're getting stock" in exchange for bail out loans is going to ruin this country! Great, so we are getting stock in companies that have failed business models...looked at the stock market lately? Guess what happens when you buy a loser...it goes down! It's the same concept as trying to grow food in a desert. Here's Sam Kinison's (RIP) take:

Not since Harry Truman nationalized the steel mills in 1952 (mercifully overturned by the Supreme Court) have we seen this kind of brazen takeover by government. It would be bad enough to have happen under Obama - but where the hell is Bush? Where, other than Bob Corker in the Senate, is the opposition. For God's sake man, grow a pair!

BATMAN

This little puppy is going to be available on DVD later this week...I highly recommend it if you haven't seen it already. It is an allegory of the war on terror with George Bush as Batman and the jihadis as the Joker. Even down to the scene of Batman standing on the wreckage of a bombed building it's phenomenal. It has the angst over whether to torture or not...it's got rendition...it even has the public turning against the hero and wanting to negotiate and appease the bad guy. Probably accidental on Hollywood's part, but make sure you see it and let me know.

"You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become a villain." -Harvey Dent

Grousing from the Left

There was an editorial in this morning's Tennessea - err, Pravda on the Cumberland, saying that the libs are getting concerned that Barry O is not appointing enough wingnuts to his cabinet. Here's a piece in Politico saying about the same thing. There seems to be particular ire about appointing Hillary to State - she voted FOR the war, and keeping Gates at Defense. One of the fun quotes was from Katrina Vanden Heuvel over at The Nation: "The appointment of Gates confirms in peoples' minds that Democrats can't run Defense. He could of at least appointed someone like Chuck Hagel, who opposed the war." Note to Katrina - Hagel is a Republican - admittedly in name only, but still has the (R) after his name!

My guess/hope is this: Barry, not unlike the last Dem to occupy the White House, (occupation of the White House - could be a theme there...) has no core principles. This is good news for those of us on the Right who thought that on the basis of his associations, the guy was damned near a Marxist. You sit in a couple of those threat briefings and it'll make those campaign promises go right out the door. B.O. probably feels like the terrier that caught the bus right now...he needs adult leadership around him.

You are kidding me, aren't you??

This fine pen sketch is of one John Thain. John is the Chairman of Merrill Lynch. Merrill Lynch lost $11.7 BILLION this year. Merrill Lynch is about to disappear into the Bank of America...probably to a place like this:

John thinks he deserves a bonus. John thinks he deserves a bonus of $10 MILLION. John is an assclown. Read more here.

Here's the 1st Grade reader's edition:

See John run.
John runs Merrill Lynch.
Merrill Lynch runs into the ground.
John tells his Mommy he did a good job.

Where is the shame?

Infamy

No December 7th passes that members and veterans of the United States Navy do not pause and reflect on what happened that Sunday morning in Pearl Harbor in 1941. We think about our shipmates that went down that day...the boys at Hickam Field. The oil spilling into the harbor as those great warships bled to death. Our country has several seminal events of outrage - Pearl Harbor and September 11 probably the two greatest. As a Texan by birth, the Alamo is top of mind too. We have always rallied and done great things as a people. Usually those involved freeing others of the oppression that drove them to make us a target. Japan and Germany were transformed from maniacally tyrannical states into engines of world progress. The jury is still way out on Iraq...further out on Afghanistan, but at a minimum a new way is in front of them.

For a great perspective on this horrific day, check out Eyewitness to History.

Army Navy 2008 Trashed Annapolis

Ahh, Army - resorting to childish pranks again. The difference is that Navy would have delivered the goods on target! Well, 34-0, seven in a row. Go Navy!
